Hi Gang
I had a question about using natural remedies for anxious dogs.
Many people are concerned about using allopathic medicine with their dogs, or wonder if there is an alternative method to “take the edge” off their dog’s fearfulness.
While natural methods are gentle (they must be or you would need a prescription for your dog to use them), sometimes they are so gentle that they seem completely ineffective. Sometimes, people have unrealistic expectations of how well a product will work, and often the marketing on these products does seem to promise miraculous results at the spray of a pump.
But there are ways to make natural remedies very effective, with a bit of know-how.
Do they work?
How best to use them?
Find out all about it in our weekly club video below the paywall, but you can also read about it here.
Reminder
This is just a quick reminder to let you know that I’m not taking any 121 behaviour clients for the foreseeable future.
I am still very deeply involved in the dog community, I’m still doing pet-sitting, writing, and working for INTODogs as the Committee Secretary, plus running the Dog Welfare Alliance. I’m a patron of ICAN: International Companion Animal Network, too.
But my health and personal circumstances have meant that, for now, 121s are not part of my current business set-up. I am devastated by this blow, having spent the best part of the last decade working and building in this field, and I plan to return to it one day soon when life permits and the time is right.
Spotted and sharing.
Do your dogs have a seriously strong prey drive? Do you want an alternative to the usual advice about shock collars and punishing the behaviour that actually works?
I was lucky enough to attend a weekend training course all about Predation Substitute Training, written and hosted by the awesome Simone Mueller last year.
Simone has also written a series of books on the subject available at Amazon*.
This kind of teaching works WITH your dog rather than suppressing behaviour and helps to avoid frustration, while giving your dog the chance to perform their NATURAL behaviours, but in a more constructive and appropriate manner, using only rewards.
There are loads of courses and resources on Simone’s website, starting with this FREE taster game you can play with your dog right now!
My other posts - because I write about other stuff too!
