The Leaf Chasing Season is in Full Swing!
Autumn is well and truly upon us today - Issue 48, 2024
Hi Gang
What a terrible, windy lot of weather we are having. There are things flying all over the garden. I’m terrified my shed will fall down. The garden box full of tools keeps taking off and depositing its contents in the buddleia bush, and sticks and debris are everywhere.
It’s like heaven for Twyla, who has not seen so many leaves to chase in months!
SHE LOVES IT.
On the other hand, I have been wondering how on earth I will get the rest of her 50 miles for the Samaritans walk done, and I am hoping it clears up long enough for us to pull our wellies and jumpers on and get out there. It’s not so much that I mind the wind; it is more about hanging on to Twyla while they blow.
Knowing this is an issue for her, I decided this year to learn about Predation Substitute Training (PST), which incorporates chasing things into the program. I duly travelled down to Cheshunt and spent two days at a seminar with the incredible Simone Mueller, who is a bit of a superstar in the dog world, plus met a few of my colleagues while there to learn some new ways of working WITH dogs to help them channel their predatory behaviours in more healthy ways than boinging about in front of the main road and across fields like Winnie The Pooh and Tigger on a Winds-day.
I also had a surprisingly comfortable stay at a Youth Hostel Association accommodation, which was only £50 a night, and my private room had its own bathroom. The reception area had a 24-hour cafe with plenty of vegan options and free Wi-Fi. I hadn’t expected it to be quite so nice and will definitely keep an eye out for rooms there in the future when travelling about. Definitely not what I remember from school trips!

Are you a dog pro who wants to help anxious dogparents?
I wrote a short book on this very subject. Dogparents of dogs with struggles often are very anxious themselves, and this can stop them from coming forward to ask for help and advice.
With my book, you can find out how to encourage them to contact you and how you can become the go-to person when they need help from someone they can trust.
You can find that on my website here.

A fantastic initiative from
