Adjusting Expectations and Working With The Dog In Front of You.
I was reminded today that not all dogs are the same, and that we need to adjust our expectations sometimes
Hi Gang
Today I was reminded that dogs are not all the same.
A Labrador puppy who is so excited by life that he can’t control himself in public gave me a lesson in changing things up to get best results.
I turned up to see my puppy client, fully expecting our lesson to go one way, but Rocky had other plans. The world was far too exciting for him to concentrate. So I had to adjust the content and style of the session, and the reward to get better results for him.
Sometimes, if things are not going to plan, instead of keep pushing on, we need to think about what we can change to make it easier for the dog and the client. I chat about today’s session more in our member’s video below.
By the time we had finished, Rocky was much more engaged with playing with us despite some distractions, practising his cues and learning to cross the road safely.
If you need some ideas on how to change up a training plan to get better results, get in touch!
